We chatted to our member and aesthetic medicine expert Janne who is the founder of the Harpenden Skin Clinic, to talk skincare and how they can help you.

Tell us a bit about yourself and life before the Harpenden Skin Clinic.

I registered as a general nurse in 1998 and worked in plastic and maxillofacial surgery in my early career. For the last 16 years I have specialised in non-surgical treatments.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

Definitely our patients and their personal journey history.

What are the most common issues clients have with their skin?

The most common issue is patients feeling that they look tired or not ‘themself’ anymore. They often say that they feel their skin looks saggy and dull.

What is your daily skin care routine?

I have to keep it simple as I am actually very bad with complicated routines. So, in the morning I cleanse, use SkinCeuticals Phloritin Vitamin C gel and then Heliocare factor 50 SPF, In the evening I cleanse, use Spectacle moisturiser and then SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5%. Sometimes I will add in H.A Intensifier if I am feeling dry.

How can we best look after our skin?

Protection, protection, protection! Prevention is much more effective than anything, so as a minimum everyone should use a Vitamin C serum and SPF 30 or 50 in the morning.

What are your top 5 face products?

  • SkinCeuticals Phloretin Vitamin C gel

  • SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5%

  • Spectacle Skin cream

  • SkinCeuticals H.A Intensifier

  • Heliocare 50 tinted SPF

What is your favourite procedure that you offer at the Harpenden Skin Clinic?

I can't pick one – Sylfirm is incredible as an all-rounder, but Botox is still my ultimate favourite when it's done well.

You have a ‘less is more’ approach to skin treatment. What does that mean?

It's important with injectable treatments that we are replacing what we have lost with ageing (facial fat, collagen) rather than creating Maleficent type cheekbones and chin faces, we need to ensure patients remain natural – like pressing pause rather than trying to look like someone else.

What would you say to someone who is uncomfortable, embarrassed, or unhappy with their skin/body?

Please come and meet us. All our team are lovely, professional, and empathetic – we all feel like this at times.

What do you like about working in Harpenden and where are your favourite local hotspots?

I love Harpenden and it's so lovely to see so many independent businesses here. It's so important to support local! - I love Lazy Bear, Threads, Vinsanto, Bar Azita and Marchon - who I have just re-joined after a wee break which has been great!

What’s next for the Harpenden Skin Clinic?

Continue to offer the most advanced and up to date treatments – with unperilled customer experience. We have an incredible team and patient base, and I am so proud to be part of it. ‘Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life’.
