Following its critically acclaimed debut production of The Secret Garden in 2024, OVO’s Youth Ensemble is delighted to return with William Golding’s classic tale of survival and human nature, Lord of the Flies, adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams.
A group of youths stranded on an uninhabited island descend into chaos as their struggle for power and control unravels their society. As tensions rise, primal instincts take over, and the line between civilisation and savagery blurs.
With intense performances and a fresh, youthful energy, OVO brings a raw, thought-provoking take on this timeless classic, exploring themes of leadership, morality, and the darkness within us all.

“I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.”
It’s 1929. The Roaring Twenties are flickering out, and the shadow of the Great Depression creeps ever closer. Inside a smoky cabaret bar, a troupe of performers take the stage for their final performance: the rise and fall of the legendary Gatsby.
As the story unfolds, we watch as the performers, who, in becoming entangled in Gatsby’s pathological pursuit of Daisy Buchanan, learn the ultimate cost of unattainable dreams.
OVO’s brand-new adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s timeless narrative brings the glamour, decadence, and tragedy of the Jazz Age to the Roman Theatre. Featuring a live Jazz pianist underscoring this ensemble-led production, be prepared to be immersed in the hedonistic roaring 20’s world of excess, fantasy, and “the great American dream”.
Click the button above to find out more about the show from its director Kelly Ann Stewart and adaptor and producer, Mark O’Sullivan.
Content Guidance
This production of The Great Gatsby stays true to the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel and therefore includes sexual implication as well as language and themes that reflect the social attitudes of the 1920s such as sexism and racsim.

The hits earned their place in pop history. From Poison Arrow to The Look Of Love, from All Of My Heart, and Be Near Me, to When Smokey Sings, ABC were the band that redefined glamour and cool.
Led by the charismatic Martin Fry, they enjoyed TransAtlantic success as The Lexicon of Love proved as artful as a Warhol silkscreen, and glossier than Marilyn’s lipstick. ABC’s The Lexicon of Love was a brilliantly distinctive debut album, fizzing with bright ideas, and unapologetically flamboyant. Frontman Martin Fry harked back to a golden era of luxe, as though Cole Porter had been re-imagined among the narrow streets of Sheffield. Little wonder his sleek, opulent, and beautiful debut retains the affection of listeners four decades on. With good reason, it has stood the test of time.
Martin's intimate tour follows a sold-out tour of the UK, which included three sell-out nights at the London Palladium, and coincides with the publication of his autobiography. That’s the look, that’s the look… The Look of Love.
Standard Ticket £34.50.
Super VIP and VIP Packages available. Super VIP: £85.00 (best seats, goody bag, pre-show meet ’n’ greet); and VIP: £52.50 (a goody bag, next best seats). Super VIP ticket holders advised to arrive at 5:30pm for a 5:45pm start.

Run by the Hertfordshire Agricultural Society, The Hertfordshire County Show started as a ploughing match on the grounds of Hatfield House in 1879, becoming a full County Show 7 years later. Since 1962, it has been held at the Showground in Redbourn, but prior to this it was held at various locations across the County. The Show is held annually on Saturday and Sunday of the last May bank holiday.
The Show is organised with the intention of helping to ‘educate and raise awareness about local agriculture and all associated skills and trades’, which is why we encourage all visitors to visit the Hertfordshire Farmyard and ‘Meet The Farmer’.
Through the years, this objective has grown to include ‘support local businesses, services and enterprises’, so across the Showground you’ll find talented artisans, producers and traders from across the County – A Showcase of Hertfordshire’s finest!
The Show still maintains many traditional County Show values, such as the Equine and Livestock Showing, as well as the Show Jumping – we now offer one of the best grass surfaces for jumping in the country! The Grand Parade is a spectacular display at many County Shows and we are proud to be able to show over 50 animals each day.
The Show is run by over 140 volunteer stewards – these are the friendly, smartly dressed faces you’ll see around the Show! Throughout the year, a team of these Stewards create the ‘Show Committee’ who regularly gather to lead the Show into the next year, ensuring we not only meet our educational objectives, but create a family friendly event you can look forward to each year.
