We caught up with our member Richard of Legion Fitness UK, to find out more about fitness, his bootcamps and his past in the French Foreign Legion.


Tell us a bit about yourself and life before Legion Fitness.

Before Legion Fitness UK, I was a personal trainer in a couple of commercial gyms, and it was great, but I wanted to start my own brand and represent myself.

Tell us about your experience being in the Army?

Previously I was in the French Foreign Legion as an infantry soldier. There I learned many skills including the French language. It was very disciplined, and we worked hard which has instilled great qualities in me today. 

What is your favourite thing about your job?

The favourite thing about my job is the different people you meet and bond with. I love seeing the results they get through consistently putting in the work and seeing how it changes their lives for the better.

How can personal training sessions benefit someone?

My bootcamps are designed for all fitness levels. If you’re a beginner or advanced level this is the place to come. We offer a wide range of exercises with various kit, working the whole body. A friendly atmosphere and people from all walks of life.

What kind of exercise equipment or ‘kit’ do you use during your sessions?

We have logs, medicine balls, tyres, ropes, power bags and we also offer boxercise.

What would you say to someone who is just starting out on their fitness/health journey and is feeling a bit lost and intimidated by it all?

If you are new to fitness, then this is the place to get you started. You will meet like-minded people and a qualified instructor to lead you to reach your goals.  

Tell us about your favourite exercises or sports and why you love these.

I personally love weightlifting and bodybuilding. You can sculpt your body into what you want it to become through diet and exercise alone.

You also offer support with nutrition plans. Can you tell us more about this and how it is tailored to everyone?

We indeed also offer nutritional support. Legion coaching is the nutritional side of the business and with this you have a tailored nutrition program based on your weight, activity levels and goals. This is vital in the fitness world.

What’s next for Legion Fitness?

What’s next for us is to open Legion in other areas in Hertfordshire to help more people enjoy fitness rather than finding it a chore. 

We would love to know what your favourite local spots in Harpenden are and what do you like doing when you are not busy at work?

When I’m not working, I love to go for walks with my dog as we have so much countryside around us and then find a country pub to have lunch in. One of my favourite restaurants is Zaza. I just love the food and service and after a long week it’s great to go and have a great meal and a glass of wine or two with my fiancé.
