Meet The Member - Huseyin of Losh Bar & Grill
Losh Bar & Grill
We interviewed Huseyin our member and owner of Losh Bar and Grill, an authentic Turkish Restaurant in Harpenden.
Hi Huseyin, thanks for talking to the We Are Harpenden community today. You’ve won ‘Best Turkish Restaurant’ for your cuisine. Can you tell us what makes a dining experience at Losh Bar and Grill so special?
Hello and thanks for having me. We use the best ingredients for all our dishes. Our meat is sourced directly from Smithfield Market in Farringdon & our veg is sourced directly from Spitalfields Market. Couple that with our skilled chefs and you end up with an excellent quality of food that just melts away in your mouth.
your restaurant opened on the 29th of April of this year in Harpenden. How were your first months since opening?
Our first few months were great. We are getting very good feedback from all of our customers, and already have a lot of regulars which is always a good thing.
What can locals expect when they come to Losh Bar and Grill in Harpenden?
Locals can expect a hands-on owner. I am also a chef and most of the prep is done by me. They can also expect to be greeted with a warm welcome and an excellent service. We are a family run restaurant so you will feel the family vibes in the air. Customers can eat comfortably knowing we take extra measurements and care into our dishes and into our customers especially who has allergies to certain food.
If someone is new to Turkish food, what would you recommend is a good selection to start with?
A good selection would always be a mixture of Mezes along with our seasoned hot bread to really get into the Mediterranean flavours. For mains my recommendation will be to try the Mixed Grill, this way you can get a taste of lamb kofte, chicken shish & lamb shish. It will be an excellent intro into Turkish food.
It may be an impossible question, but do you have a personal favourite dish on your menu?
I do adore all the dishes on my menu, however, my personal favourite has to be the Chicken shish. It is full of flavour, and is a very healthy option as its cooked on our charcoal grill and it is also an excellent source of protein.
How did you design the décor of the restaurant and what features were most important to you?
To be honest we bought the restaurant with its current design on the interior. I think the former owners of the restaurant had done an excellent job with the design, it really does suit Harpenden. We just added our touches on the outside and with our brand & colours, we wanted to stand out hence why we have decided to go for a green & yellow theme on the exterior.
People may not know that you have a fantastic cocktail menu. Can you recommend a dish or two that would pair particularly well with any of your cocktails?
The Losh Martini is an excellent choice to go with any food especially chicken. It is not very sweet and not very sour and would not ruin your palate.
Do you think there is anything about Harpenden and its clientele, that makes the town stand out?
I think Harpenden is a unique town. Especially because of where it is located, it is very close to a lot of the larger towns in the area such as St Alban's & Luton. It also has very easy and quick access into London which is very handy. The clientele knows what good food & good wine is. You cannot cut corners and must aim to always provide the best quality.
Tell us why your venue is great to book for an event. What can you offer a corporate company of family that would like to rent it out for a special occasion.
Our venue is great for large bookings as we are one of the larger restaurants in the area. We can also offer private hire on certain days. We have the space; we have great range of drinks and a mouth-watering menu.
When you’re not hard at work with the restaurant, are there any local hotspots that you enjoy?
To be honest, I am always at work or thinking about how to improve and go to the next step. I do enjoy visiting other restaurants and bars to meet with owners and to network. We are looking forward to your next networking event!
