Meet The Member - Dr Ravi Jain of Riverbanks Clinic, Harpenden
Dr Ravi Jain
We caught up with Dr Ravi Jain, founder of the award-winning Riverbanks Clinic to find out insights into his journey, his clinic’s ethos, and what continues to inspire him in the field of wellness and aesthetics.
We are very happy to have you as a member of We Are Harpenden. We would love to hear about your journey. Have you always wanted to work in the world of aesthetics and wellness? Did you do something different before?
I started my medical career as a junior doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the London Teaching Hospitals before transitioning to General Practice in 2000. During that time, I developed a special interest in Dermatology and work alongside Dermatologists. It was during this time I was introduced to the world of medical aesthetics. In 2008 I set up Riverbanks Clinic which started as a private general practice and aesthetic medicine was part of the portfolio.
What challenges are people usually facing before coming to you?
They are unhappy with the appearance of their skin. It usually causes them great concern and anxiety. They find it hard choosing who to trust with their skin as everyone these days seems to market themselves as an expert.
You were awarded England’s Best Secret RF provider for 2024. Congratulations, how was it to win an award for one of your treatments?
Honestly it was a complete surprise. When we first opened, we won Best Clinic in the country for 4 years and since then we hadn’t entered future competitions. However, it was important this year to recognise one of our medical aestheticians who had delivered the Secret RF Microneedling treatment single handed, and we were delighted that her skills were recognised.
What would you say is your most popular treatments and why do you think it’s so popular?
Our anti-wrinkle injections are our most popular treatment, closely followed by our lasers for treating rosacea. We have a host of dermatological lasers rather than aesthetic lasers. The big difference is the quality control and the safety and scientific studies backing these treatments.
As a business owner, what do you like about being based in Harpenden?
Its near home! No commute! Clean Air! Like minded population.
What is it that defines you and sets you apart from other wellness and aesthetic clinics?
The Good Medical Practice guidelines prohibit doctors from saying we are better than others. My practice has been built upon ethics, safety, honesty and integrity. We have over 18 years’ experience in medical aesthetics and have always been doctor led.
Can we get your top tip for anyone on how to best look after your skin?
Wear sunscreen every day (not mixed in your moisturiser). Drink plenty of water every day. Minimise alcohol to small amounts at the weekend. Don’t smoke. Don’t roast in the sun. Apply a prescription strength retinoid cream for long lasting effects.
Is there anything that people feel particularly surprised by when it comes to wellness and aesthetic treatments?
That I’m a ‘real doctor’ - When I hear this, I am always dismayed by the reputation this industry has earned itself – and it’s far from what we offer at Riverbanks.
What do you like the most about what you do?
I can make a huge difference to how people feel about themselves. Whether it’s a scar reduction, pigmentation, acne scarring, acne, premature wrinkles, headaches, teeth grinding we have helped all these conditions.
Where in Harpenden is your favourite spot to go in your spare time?
Marchon Gym. This has been my happy place for 8 years now.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I swam an ice mile for charity last December.
